Christian Atsu: Newcastle are ‘hope for optimistic news’ on Ghana winger Christian Atsu, who has been reported to be trapped in the Turkey earthquake. Former Newcastle winger Christian Atsu is reportedly missing following Monday’s earthquakes in Turkey and Syria; some of the 31-year-Hatayspor old’s teammates have been recovered from the rubble, but Atsu remains unaccounted for.

The 31-year-old Ghana international, who now plays for Turkish Super Lig club Hatayspor, was reported missing after teammates and members of the club’s technical staff were rescued from the rubble.

“Christian Atsu and (club sporting director) Taner Savut are still under the rubble,” Hatayspor vice president Mustafa Ozat told Turkish TV station Play Spor.

After arriving on loan from Chelsea for the season and eventually completing a permanent move, Atsu was part of the Magpies’ promotion back to the Premier League in 2017.

“Praying for some great news, @ChristianAtsu20,” the club’s official Twitter account wrote.
