Bola Tinubu wins Nigeria’s presidential election 2023. Bola Tinubu, the candidate of the ruling party, has emerged victorious in Nigeria’s contested presidential election with 36% of the vote, according to official results.
Atiku Abubakar, his main rival, secured 29%, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party garnered 25%. The opposition parties had earlier dismissed the election as a fraud and demanded a rerun.
Tinubu, a 70-year-old veteran politician and one of Nigeria’s wealthiest politicians, campaigned on his achievements in rebuilding Lagos, the country’s largest city, during his tenure as governor.
He was, however, defeated in Lagos by Peter Obi, a newcomer who mobilized young people’s support, especially in urban areas, and shook up Nigeria’s two-party system.
Tinubu won most of the states in his home region of the southwest, where he is known as a “political godfather.” His campaign slogan was “It’s my turn.”

President Muhammadu Buhari is concluding his two terms in office, which were characterized by economic stagnation and an increase in insecurity throughout the nation, from an Islamist rebellion in the northeast to a nationwide crisis of kidnapping for ransom and separatist assaults in the southeast.
Mr. Tinubu now faces the responsibility of resolving these and other issues in Nigeria, which is Africa’s most populous country and largest oil exporter.
After struggling against military rule in Nigeria, fleeing into exile, and being one of the founders of the country’s democracy in 1999, Mr. Tinubu will likely believe that becoming president is his destiny.
Due to his role in helping Mr. Buhari become president, he was always considered the top candidate to succeed him, and the obstacles he overcame to get to this point make this victory even more satisfying for him.
Despite not being predicted to win the party primary, he was able to emerge victorious. Bola Tinubu wins Nigeria’s presidential election 2023
